• Vinyl coated papers – tough and washable they are best in rooms where there is a lot of condensation. A pattern is printed on top of a thin layer of vinyl that is backed by paper.
  • Vinyl papers – even tougher than vinyl coated paper and impervious to water. When thinking about future home design ideas remember this type of paper can be really tricky to remove.
  • Textured vinyl – this has an embossed pattern and is good in high traffic areas or where the walls aren’t even.
  • Woodchip paper – very difficult to remove when no longer wanted
  • Washable paper – a patterned paper that is treated with a plastic coating making it easy to wipe down and clean.

· Get swatches: A large number of home furnishing stores provide their customers with swatches that they can take home to test. You should get swatches of the fabrics you like so that you can see what they actually look like in your home with the lighting and décor. You may have to pay a deposit for the swatches but it really is worth it as it can prevent you from making a mistake and buying the wrong fabric.

· Get a picture: In today’s market, you will find quite a few home furnishing and décor stores that provide computerized images that give you a peek into what your sofa or drapes will look like once it is actually finished. This will help you immensely as you will actually be able to see whether the fabric, color, pattern, etc. you have chosen looks as good at home as it does in the store.
